The experiences, friendships and moments that happen on our campuses don’t just belong to the present- they become part of the story of Technological University of the Shannon and the thousands of students who have passed through it.

To help preserve that history, TUS Alumni has launched a new Alumni Archive Drive on the alumni portal. The initiative aims to collect photographs and memories from alumni across all campuses, helping to document the everyday moments that shaped student life over the years.

A memorable moment from 2011

To launch the archive drive, we’re sharing photos from 2011 on the Athlone campus, when former Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni visited what was then known as the Athlone Institute of Technology.

During the visit, Trapattoni met with Italian students studying at the institute and took time to pose for photographs with them. The occasion also featured a friendly match on the newly opened astro-turf pitch, where a team of Italian students faced off against Irish classmates.

Moments like these capture the unique atmosphere of campus life, where international connections, sport, and shared experiences create memories that last long after graduation.

Contribute to the TUS Alumni Archive

While many official photographs exist, some of the most meaningful records of campus life are the ones alumni took themselves- photos from society events, sports teams, nights out, trips, graduations and everyday moments with friends.

Through the Alumni Archive Drive, we’re inviting graduates and former students to help us preserve those memories.

If you have photographs from your time at TUS or any of its legacy institutions, we would love to include them in the archive. When possible, please include any details you remember, such as the year, the event, the campus, or the people involved.

Photos can be submitted to:alumni@tus.ie

Together, these contributions will help build a richer picture of the history and community that make up TUS, ensuring that the stories of past students remain part of the university’s living memory.
